Welcome to
Advanced Parathyroid Surgery of New York
Dr. Lawrence Gordon performs minimally invasive parathyroid surgery at Advanced Parathyroid Surgery of New York. Through proper diagnostic imaging and surgical techniques, it enables a more direct surgery that frequently leads to less operative time, smaller incision and scar, and can be performed on an ambulatory basis where you go home the same day.
No medications or drugs can cure parathyroid disease or hyperparathyroidism. Surgery is the only way to treat the condition. Removal of the parathyroid gland (or glands) which are overproducing parathyroid hormone is the only known cure. To cure the condition, it must be determined which of the four parathyroid glands has become a tumor and is producing too much parathyroid hormone.
The traditional parathyroid operation technique requires a large incision in the neck to locate and examine the four parathyroid glands located behind the thyroid. The tumorous gland is then located and removed. Patients that opt for traditional surgery usually require at least one night of hospitalization. In the end, the patient is left with a larger scar on the neck.
Hyperparathyroidism
Primary hyperparathyroidism is not a common condition. For most doctors, they are only going to treat it a few times in their career. Symptoms of hyperparathyroidism can vary in complexity and can also lead to osteoporosis.
The Only Cure
Surgical removal of the overactive parathyroid gland is the only known cure for primary hyperparathyroidism. Minimally Invasive Parathyroid Surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires a smaller incision, less scaring and rapid healing.
